Product designer (1972)
Studied at the Fontys academy of product design.
There J.P. worked during his practical year at the studio of DROOG-designer: Tejo Remy: that put his in the direction he’s going now.
J.P. likes to design fresh, funny, minimal designs and concepts, designed by the same way of thinking, brought back to the essence of the idea.
He likes to use iconic forms and objects, which everybody will recognize, which he interprets and use in a different way.
The idea usually defines the design of the product.
A lot of Ideas come from working on a model of some other idea: when working with materials you can discover new shapes, constructions and visual effects, sometimes by accident, which you don’t think of when you only draw a product.
His designs are produced and distributed worldwide by companies such as: Next, Dark, Van Esch, Umbra, PresentTime, NeXtime, Invotis, Lujan + Sicilia, Kikkerland, Interior-tools,Vange, Jansen+Co and Duo-design.
J.P.’s work is often being published in various (design) magazines and other media.
Things J.P. is proud of:
• One of my first designs "spare" it sums up my way of designing and opened some doors for me.
• “molecule” a modular light-concept that is being developed by Belgian light-producer "DARK"
• my latest "Shots" table: it won the “Horecava”-award for best interior-product. - “Blade” a fat new interactive light-design for German light-company “NEXT”.” The idea for “Timeloop” came while making a model for another design in paper strips. He wanted to suggest movement / pulsating by the different sized loops, it looks a bit like a sea-creature.
